Comprehensive College Search and Planning
With hundreds of colleges and academic programs out there, where do you begin? First, we start with a conversation. Using a personalized approach, I’ll help you identify, research, and target colleges. Next, I’ll create a list of schools and programs that match your interests, goals, and financial considerations. The “right” college is the one that fits you best! We’ll decide whether you should apply Early Decision, Early Action, or Regular Decision. I’ll keep track of the shifting test policies, and we’ll determine the testing path that best suits your targeted colleges. And we’ll make a plan and a timeline that fits your schedule and your schools. Everyone feels less anxious after we make a plan!
College Application Advising
Colleges look at your application holistically, so it’s not just about the transcript and the essays. It’s crucial to give colleges the most well-rounded and complete view of you possible, so they understand that you will be a successful, engaged student who will contribute in the classroom and on campus. I’ll help you use every part of the application to your advantage; there is a strategy to this. We’ll organize, highlight, explain and quantify what you do outside of the classroom, whether that is sports, volunteerism, clubs, work, or hobbies. If you have extra information to share, or extenuating circumstances to explain, we can tackle that in a way that is best for you.
Essay Coaching
Using my decades of experience as a professional writer, and my background in teaching writing, I’ll help you deconstruct prompts and brainstorm to find topics that resonate with you. We’ll strategize how to use supplemental essays to round out your application and give admissions counselors the fullest picture of you possible. I’ll provide feedback on your essays and, along the way, you’ll learn a few lessons about grammar and punctuation! Most importantly, your essays will reflect your unique, authentic voice. It’s important that the admissions committees hear YOU: your voice, your perspectives, your ideas, and your academic goals.
Successes and Continued Support
I can help my students narrow down their acceptances and guide them through the final college decision-making process. I also offer academic consulting and application advising for graduate programs, including medical and PA school. Many of my former high school students plan to return to me when they apply to postgraduate programs, or apply to study abroad, so they may arrange to meet with me periodically to make sure they’re on the right track. I have even reviewed resumes and helped with job interview prep for my students, so I am always here to support you. And I’ve been fortunate to work with some of my former students on professional and volunteer projects. I love watching you achieve your dreams!
